Willmott Dixon names Stuart Hosegood as safety, health and environment director
The former Cala Group HSE director and past chair of the Home Builders Federation's health and safety committee takes strategic charge of SHE across the contractor's construction and interiors businesses.

Willmott Dixon has appointed Stuart Hosegood as its safety, health and environment (SHE) director, handing him strategic leadership of safety, health and environmental performance across its construction and interiors businesses.
Hosegood joins from housebuilder Cala Group, where as group HSE director he led SHE strategy, governance, culture and performance, the contractor said. Before that he was head of health and safety at Berkeley Group.
He brings more than 30 years of SHE leadership across construction, housebuilding, oil and gas, manufacturing and quarrying, according to Willmott Dixon.
Stewart Brundell, chief operating officer of Willmott Dixon's construction business, said: "Stuart brings a rare combination of experience at the sharp end of high-risk industries and influence at industry level, through the HBF and CONIAC."
Industry roles
Hosegood previously chaired the Home Builders Federation (HBF) Health and Safety Committee and has been involved in the Managing Risk Well working group of the Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC), which advises the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The HBF describes its committee as a membership group committed to improving the health and safety performance of the home building sector. Member organisations must sign the HBF Health and Safety Charter and submit RIDDOR and accident data every quarter, and an HSE representative sits on the committee. The HBF lists Paul Dyster as its current chair.
CONIAC is chaired by the HSE's chief inspector of construction, and the committee says its working groups are the principal means of delivering practical outcomes in support of its purpose and work plan.
The portfolio
Hosegood's remit covers a portfolio that includes the Emergency Care Building at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, the first Wave 1 New Hospital Programme scheme to top out. Willmott Dixon said the Derriford frame used 10,900 cubic metres of concrete and 1,900 tonnes of recycled steel reinforcement.
It also takes in The Stage in Luton, a regeneration scheme delivering 292 homes, a music venue and a new public square for Luton Borough Council. Willmott Dixon's November 2025 contract announcement put the scheme's value at £136m and said the 292 apartments on the former Bute Street Shoppers car park would include 84 affordable rental homes.
Willmott Dixon Interiors is involved in early work on the refurbishment of the London Fire Brigade headquarters, the company said. Recent completions include the Hertfordshire Constabulary headquarters in Welwyn Garden City and the Staffordshire University Student Village in Stoke-on-Trent.
The Hertfordshire building is a £56m, 9,000m² headquarters for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, procured through the SCAPE Construction framework and, according to Willmott Dixon, the first police facility in the UK designed to achieve WELL Platinum.
Scale of the business
Willmott Dixon employs 2,000 people across 16 UK locations and reports an accident frequency rate of 0.09 across 11.6 million working hours. The company says a record 81% of its turnover is delivered through long-term public-sector frameworks.
On the environmental side of the brief, Willmott Dixon said it cut absolute carbon emissions by 14% in 2025 and by 63% against its 2018 baseline, and is committed to becoming a net zero carbon company by 2030. It holds a CDP A rating for the second consecutive year.
Priorities
Hosegood's priorities include strengthening leadership engagement, learning from both successes and failures, and making more effective use of data and technology to focus on the factors that most influence performance, the contractor said.
Hosegood, SHE director at Willmott Dixon, said: "SHE is much more than compliance. It should be an enabler of high performance that helps us deliver work safely, sustainably and efficiently, while creating an environment where everyone can thrive."
He added that safety, health and environmental performance is everyone's responsibility, and that the measure of success is that every person goes home safe and well.
The appointment was announced on 6 October 2026.
